First two sentences: A vine's dry matter economy is totally dependent upon the photosynthetic activity of its leaves. Although mineral nutrients derived from the soil are key components, they represent a very small percentage of the vine's dry weight (less than 1% in woody organs); the balance comes from photosynthesis.
