Turner Road\, Lodi\, 95242 \nCost:  $40 per person.  *There is no physical ticket required for this event.  Your purchase information will be used for check-in at the event.  \nDescription:  Exactly how do Zinfandels from Lodi’s oldest vines compare to ancient vine Zinfandels grown in Sonoma County\, Napa Valley\, Paso Robles\, Contra Costa and Amador County?  The best way to find out is to taste them “blind\,” preferably with the guidance of some of the most Zinfandel-knowledgeable wine professionals in the state. \nThis ZinFest pre-event will consist of 12 Zinfandels from all these classic wine regions – all the wines sourced from vines planted an average of over 100 years ago. The objective will be to delineate and discuss terroir related sensory qualities\, which will be discussed by three panelists of impeccable credentials: Mike Dunne (Columnist\, “Dunne on Wine\,” and The Sacramento Bee)\, Steve Eliot (Editor\, Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine)\, and Catherine Fallis MS (Planet Grape®\, Grape Goddess®\, author of “10 Grapes to Know”). DESCRIPTION:Dates:  Thursday July 11th – Friday July 12th\, 2019 \nTime:  Thursday July 11th: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm\, Friday July 12th: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm \nVenue:  Springhill Suites Napa Valley\, Chardonnay Room\, 101 Gateway Rd E\, Napa\, CA\, 94558 \nCost:  $585 per person\, Lunch and morning refreshments provided both days \nDescription:  Learn to establish and manage profitable small vineyards with in-depth instruction and hands-on learning in this workshop designed for the grape grower\, winemaker\, viticulturist and apprentice viticulturist in the heart of Napa Valley at our Oakville Experiment Station. \nDay one topics include: \n\nSite selection to avoid frost and freeze events\nSite preparation and amendment\nTrellis selection to manage vineyard vigor\nSoil preparation and amendments to ensure profitability\nCultural practices focusing on practical aspects of management\nIrrigation system design and simplified irrigation scheduling for productivity\nQuality and harvesting decisions\n\nDay two will be spent in the vineyard\, examining vineyard instruction on trellis types\, pruning\, irrigation system design and sprayer calibration. \nPlease dress appropriately for the vineyard sessions with closed-toe shoes\, long sleeve shirts and pants.  Space is limited.  Early enrollment is encouraged.  \nInstructor:  Sahap Kurtural\, Ph.D.\, is an associate Cooperative Extension specialist in viticulture with the Department of Viticulture and Enology.
