The goal is to create a strong local network for communicating the best IPM strategies and for support in solving viticulture anomalies. This month\, we will focus on grapevine fungal trunk diseases. One solution to combat these diseases is to employ biological control agents (BCAs). Therefore\, multiple strains of potential BCA Trichoderma sp. were isolated from Californian vineyards and screened for ability to limit pruning wound infections and resultant trunk disease. Eight strains with the most BCA potential belonged to one of six different Trichoderma species: T. asperellum\, T. capillare\, T. harzianum\, T. saturnisporopsis and two putatively new species. These strains were observed to have potentially different mechanisms of combating plant pathogenic fungi\, with some relying more on metabolite production and others on direct predation. This box is home to Poppy and Yarrow plus their four chicks. Growers and the community are invited to stop by to meet Matt\, Lauren and the barn owl chicks.
