Who Should Attend: Everyone – viruses affect our entire industry!
Description: We’ll start off by sharing leafroll virus management strategies we’ve learned from researchers around the world and local experiences. LangeTwins will discuss how they train a virus scouting crew & how they map and manage for leafroll virus.
Then, we’ll all head out to the vines with the Lodi Grapevine Virus Research Focus Group to check out virus symptoms on previously-tested vines, look for beneficial insects, learn how to properly take virus testing samples, and look for virus vectors (with Dr. Cindy Preto who can teach us about the presumed red blotch vector – the threecornered alfalfa hopper). Much like the Mealybug ID Field Day last summer, we will have microscopes available and it will be fun to see what other insects we find as we search the vines (we’ll also take this opportunity to look for vine mealybugs, parasitized mealybugs, and Cryptolaemus beetles).
This meeting is partially funded by the American Vineyard Foundation and the CDFA PD/GWSS Board – thank you!
