First two paragraphs: Potassium in soils mainly resides in K-bearing minerals. The K-supplying power of a soil depends not only on content and kind of K-bearing minerals in the soil but also on the rate at which structural and fixed K becomes available to plants. The nature of K reserves and rate of K release from minerals are even more important in forest soils where K fertilizers are usually not applied.
