Description
This Crete Zinfandel was grown in a historic vineyard and located on DeVries Rd just north of Turner Rd, on the west side of Lodi. The vineyard was planted in 1958. The vines are on St. George rootstock and are head-trained. This is a quintessential 'West Side' Lodi vineyard - fine, sandy soil with yields of about five ton per acre, producing unusually elongated and loose clusters of grapes. The St. George rootstock adds an underlying savage or wildness to counter-point the rich fruit. This character from the rootstock is most notable when comparing Zinfandel wines made from own-rooted vines.
