First three sentences: Many growers use or have tried vineyard cover crops to obtain economic or environmental benefits. Typical benefits include increased water penetration, reduced erosion and runoff, improved vineyard accessibility on wet soils, addition of organic matter and nitrogen, and enhanced juice and wine quality. An increasing number of growers are using cover crops as a way of achieving the latter benefit.
