First Paragraph: Most winegrape growers and viticulturists agree that irrigation is the most important management practice for quality wine grape production known to directly effect fruit acidity, pH, and phenolics, including anthocyanins in red grape berries. The influence of irrigation on berry size and foliage growth, particularly canopy growth relative to the amount of crop, also may indirectly affect fruit characteristics and bunch rot incidence.
