Two golden rules of vitivculture

First paragraph of second section: For vineyards to produce sufficient quantities of quality fruit, shoot growth needs to be balanced with fruit yield. If there is not enough shoot growth relative to the yield, we say the vineyard is 'over cropped' but perhaps more appropriately we should say 'under leafed.' Such vineyards are typically of low vigor, which in turn, is due to some stress such as pests, weeds, disease or perhaps a soil environment which hinders root growth.
