BABY BARN OWL/SCIENTIST MEET & GREET

Description:  In a collaborative effort among California Universities, barn owl researchers Dr. Matthew Johnson and Lauren M. Jackson (Cal Poly Humboldt) alongside Dr. Daniel Karp and PhD student Karen Gallardo Cruz (UC Davis) have been actively monitoring over 200 American barn owl nest boxes in Lodi and surrounding areas, including one at the Lodi Winegrape Commission’s Demo Vineyard. This nest box is home to returning pair Poppy and Yarrow, who are back for a second year and are currently raising a new family of five chicks. Growers and the community are invited to stop by to meet the team, the barn owl babies, and watch how scientists tag the young owls.
