The FRAME (Fungicide Resistance Assessment, Mitigation and Extension) team is back at it!
After completing our first project in 2023, that saw five years of grape powdery mildew FRAC 11 fungicide resistance sampling, tracking, and studying we’ve decided to expand our studies to look at more FRAC groups, and more grape pathogens (including Downy Mildew and Botrytis Bunch Rot). In this next round, we are looking to develop rapid-diagnostic tools for different FRAC groups, build better pathogen sampling devices, expand our ability to forecast risk of disease spread across local and regional scales, and deliver more training opportunities to improve grape grower, crop consultant, and Extension educator baseline knowledge in grape disease management and fungicide resistance mitigation.
Factsheets, Articles, and Videos
At FRAME we believe it’s important to develop durable, lasting information on fungicide resistance in grapes, so that information does not get lost or remembered as “..you know, in that one presentation a few years ago at…”. To achieve this, we have developed, and curated, a list of relevant resources, located on our “Grower Information” page.
From FRAME-developed factsheets, to information on how to sample for pathogens in vineyards, and from how to interpret fungicide resistance testing results, to educational videos about how fungicide resistance develops (like the example above), we hope you find this one-stop-shop resource helpful for your vineyard or business.
The site also features several easy-reading articles the team has developed over the years, including:
- A Framework to Manage Fungicide Resistance in Grape Powdery Mildew – Wine Business Monthly / Practical Vineyard and Winery
- Good to Know: Dialing in disease control. Best practices for fungicide stewardship – Good Fruit Grower
- Early Season Scouting for Grape Powdery Mildew – Good Fruit Grower
- Managing Fungicide Resistance in the Vineyard – American Vineyard
- Good to Know: Why some seasons are worse for powdery mildew – Good Fruit Grower
Going a Little Deeper
Do you like a little late-night reading, or building project-specific folders in ChatGPT? Check out the scientific publications by the FRAME team, organized by topic on our Publications Page.
Webinars and Workshops
In 2026 and beyond, the FRAME team will offer several webinars related to grape disease management and fungicide resistance mitigation. These workshops will feature presentations and hands-on activities and will be about 90 minutes each. As we schedule these workshops, registration information will be posted on our Events page and on the Local Opportunities page under the Education tab on this website (lodigrowers.com).
More importantly, we are developing these webinars so that they can be regionally tailored and be hosted by local grower organizations, extension educators, or crop consulting companies. If you are interested in hosting a webinar, follow the information at our Educator Information webpage.

The FRAME Network (Fungicide Resistance Assessment, Mitigation and Extension Network) is a team of scientists who are developing tools that can be applied to other specialty crops facing fungicide resistance challenges. Dr. Michelle Moyer (Professor / Extension Viticulturist, Washington State University) is the Project Director for the current FRAME project (2024-2028). Dr. Monica Cooper (Farm Advisor – Viticulture, University of California, Agriculture & Natural Resources, Napa County) is a Project Co-Investigator.
The Lodi Winegrape Commission is involved as part of the Stakeholder Advisory Group through Stephanie Bolton, PhD, Grower Research & Education Director.
The full and impressive list of people involved in current and past iterations of the FRAME projects can be found at framenetworks.wsu.edu/people.
