Mechanical and minimal pruning in winegrape production 1996

First Paragraph: Experience and research shows that the benefits (simplicity, convenience and less need for thinning) of traditional hand pruning outweigh the problems (depressing effect of overall vine capacity, cost, etc.). In recent years, labor costs and grape prices have made the financial aspects of pruning more of a concern. The Australian experience demonstrates the feasibility of less or even no pruning to maintain production and quality while lowering costs.
