There are many reasons why a farmer or citizen may have outdated chemicals on their property which are now unsafe to dispose of. For example, weathered labels may become illegible or mystery containers may have been inherited with the property (especially if there is an old barn like the one pictured above). When this happens it is crucial to find a way to safely dispose of these products. Luckily, the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office is offering to help people who have found themselves in this situation.
From the Ag Commissioner’s Office:
“In an ongoing effort to help reduce unwanted, heritage pesticides, the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office will provide a free pesticide amnesty day to San Joaquin County growers in 2025. To do so, the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office is requesting to fill out the attached pesticide disposal survey and report the list of unwanted or outdated pesticides for disposal, quantities, how are pesticides stored and contact information (internal use only for providing event details). You can email this survey to us at stocktonag2@sjgov.org or bring it your permit renewal appointments or drop off at the front office during our regular office hours.”
For a copy of this PDF survey, click HERE. Note that this is only to be filled out by San Joaquin County property owners or growers.
All shared information will be kept confidential. If you have any questions, please call the San Joaquin Co. office at 209-953-6000 or email them at stocktonag2@sjgov.org.
Hard copies of the survey will also be available at tomorrow’s IPM network meeting located at Burgundy Hall, Lodi Grape Festival Grounds, from 8 – 9:30am.
